Sr. ASIC Design Engineer

As an engineer in a small highly-skilled team, you will need in depth ASIC design and verification experience as well as a broad understanding of system engineering principles and hardware and software for embedded systems. This role will be instrumental in the development and testing of prototype FPGA designs that will be deployed in a variety of ASIC fabrications. Good communication skills, as well as versatility and flexibility, are essential, to handle multiple tasks facing a small hardware team supporting multiple customers.  The hardware team is part of a larger engineering group, and you will work closely with R&D, software, and QA engineers, to develop and deploy complex signal processing algorithms into RTL for ASICs and FPGAs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Collaborate with R&D engineers to research and architect new algorithms and designs with a focus on making efficient hardware solutions
  • Design and develop system architecture for hardware/firmware solutions, with detailed attention to customer requirements
  • Design and code RTL (Verilog) for complex signal processing algorithms
  • Define and plan scope of verification tests for hardware designs
  • Run simulations and debug designs, using VCS, ModelSim, or similar tools
  • Run synthesis for FPGA and ASIC using Synopsys DC or similar tools
  • Use FPGA development board environment for product test and evaluation
  • Maintain familiarity with current techniques and technologies for design and production of ASICs for commercial products
  • Write high quality technical documentation
  • Represent our company  to partners and customers in written communications, meetings and technical presentations
  • Work with customers to support IP integration and problem solving, with occasional travel and on-site visits as required

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • BS/MS in electrical or computer engineering
  • 5 years recent experience designing and testing IP for ASICs and FPGAs
  • 8 – 10 years of overall engineering experience
  • Extensive logic design, verification, and synthesis experience
  • Strong skills in coding RTL in Verilog or VHDL
  • Expertise working in a Linux-based development environment, including design tools, revision control (such as git) and scripting (make, perl, python)
  • Expertise with programming and running FPGA development boards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver robust, high-quality products on time

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:
  • Experience delivering IP to customers and supporting IP integration
  • Solid understanding of C/C++ code
  • Firmware development
  • Embedded processors
  • DFT/ATPG for high-volume ASICs
  • Spyglass, Formality
  • DSP algorithms & Image processing
  • Printer or scanner design
  • Experience with MATLAB
