Facilities Engineer job in Anchorage, AK

 

Location: Anchorage, AK

Pay: $35-$38/hr. W2

Type: 6-month contract

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Facilities Engineer II designs and installs AC and DC power systems, power distribution, battery backup, and cabling systems for telecommunications. They provide technical support for maintaining and upgrading HVACs, generators, UPS units, grounding networks, rectifiers, and inverters, while ensuring compliance with Central Office Engineering Standards. The mid-level facilities engineer should have a working knowledge of telephony power systems, including for central offices, customer premises, wire centers, and remote earth stations. They stay current on advances in telephony installation engineering and DC/AC power systems.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Design and install telecommunications facilities including cable racks, lighting, AC/DC power systems, and distribution.
  • Provide technical support to engineering, installation, and operations personnel.
  • Estimate installation labor time and materials, coordinate supplies, and provide installation support.
  • Understand industry standards and compliance requirements such as Bell Core/Telcordia, IEEE, and NEBS.
  • Possess a working knowledge of AC/DC electrical/electronic systems and engineering analytical skills for calculating and evaluating telecommunication infrastructure.
  • Work with facilities and equipment such as Central Office infrastructure, transport, power and grounding equipment, and high-speed data network equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications, or similar field.
  • 2+ years of experience working in similar roles involving power systems.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must live in Alaska, preferably in or near Anchorage, and be willing to do field work.
  • (Bonus points for PE License.)
